OUTCOME

In response to a call from Tower Hamlets Council to offer free summer holiday programme to young people who have been impacted by the closure of schools due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we completed our 4-week project this August engaging with 30 young people per week.

We knew that targeting fitness over the summer holidays in the aftermath of the Covid-19 outbreak would be a welcome and effective means of engaging young people in Tower Hamlets. Our team of experienced fitness professionals, including a national charity, were best positioned to encourage and engage our Borough's youth.

Not only did their physical fitness improved, we also addressed how best to maintain and support good mental health and also take this opportunity to address issues, such as what constitutes a healthy role model.

Themes covered in the sessions included well-being, character building, socially connected, greater knowledge of health and nutrition.

Our objective was to bring a positive impact in the local community and young people during summer holiday. This programme enabled us to provide a consistent and easily accessible enrichment of activities, with nutritious healthy meal for the young people to be able to eat healthier.

Although we were able to restore some form of normalcy into the lives of the young people, the truth is they have had a bigger impact on us. They helped us remember our ‘why’ and give us the fuel we need to continue our work community engagement work, especially during this challenging time.
