Trapped in Zone One presents Voice of the Youth, supported Wapping Youth FC and Tower Hamlets Homes.
Our project is offering opportunities to disengaged, inactive young people aged 16-29 in Tower Hamlets. Over a period of 12-weeks, we assisted young people to create 3 short films to be screened virtually to the wider community as part of our Virtual Get Together online event.
Virtual Get Together is a monthly themed event which covers a diverse range of experiences from groups and individuals from communities in London. The objective of our project is to entertain through creativity and encourage non-divisive discussion.
Our aim is to strengthen connections within communities in Tower Hamlets, keeping young people engaged and active throughout these difficult times impacted by COVID-19. We aim to reach those at high risk of loneliness, inactivity and social isolation targeting young people from the BAME community and people on lower income.
The lack of opportunities and overcoming barriers faced by young people of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background is an aspect we wanted address by providing opportunities to young people from Wapping Youth FC to enhance their skills through a creative outlet, engaging in the design process and connecting the young people with long-term support to achieve sustainable behavioural change and increase their employability chances as a creative individual.
The essence of a sustainable creative opportunity is to upskill young creatives, empowering them with the correct skills to further their career as an aspiring film makers who work in the borough to create more filmic artwork going forward and carrying on the community resilience work in sharing the voice of the youth to express their needs improving social connections within the community.
Working collaboratively with our youth-led community partners Wapping Youth FC, together we engaged with young residents from Tower Hamlets to create short films based on the following themes,
Climate Change for Earth Day
What worries you most about climate change?
What are you doing to address climate change in your community?
What is your message to those in power about climate change?
Mental Health - Connect With Nature
For Mental Health Awareness Week, we asked creatives:
How has the past 12 months impacted your mental health?
In what ways has nature helped with your mental health?
Why is nature important when it comes to mental health?
Community Cohesion - Tower Hamlets Together
As part of our new community mural for Mayor of London’s Festival of Ideas Programme 2021 working in partnership with Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park on Ackroyd Drive Greenlink, we wanted to find out if creativity can bring communities together?
